1 out of 5 stars I wish I could rate it zero stars   July 19, 2010

If you want to lose weight & eat healthful foods, look to books like Flat Belly Diet, Eat Clean Diet, or Eat Drink & be Vegan.
Hungry Girl is just disappointing. No one needs advice on how to eat junk food.

4 out of 5 stars hungry girl   July 14, 2010

She uses a lot of fat free, sugar free ingredients, which I wasn't expecting because I don't necessarily think those products are healthy. However, her recipes seem excellent, but I have not had time to cook any yet. I did however put about 60 stick notes in the book of recipes I would like to try!

5 out of 5 stars Yummy and Guilt free recipes!!!!   June 28, 2010

I bought this cookbook for my fiance. We couldn't be happier with this purchase. We have had if for several months now and are still enjoying recipes from here. If you enjoy eating things like burgers, fries, quesadillas, chocolate, etc....this is the diet book for you!! The recipes are a healthier option to the above that are tasty and filling. I plan on buying the rest in her series to expand our collection. Thank you Hungry Girl!!!

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not Fantastic   June 7, 2010

I fully understand why this HG cookbook (and her others) get mixed reviews. Yes, she uses processed foods. Yes, you may not be getting the best nutrition from the recipes. etc, etc, etc. But, HG is a god-send for quick and easy low cal, low fat, high fiber foods. This particular cookbook has a lot of really great recipes in it for someone like myself. I'm not able to always spend time cooking and I don't have access to a lot of the "organic" food, but I am trying to loose weight.

I have found, that for me, this cookbook works best when mixed in with common sense and other recipes. Most days, I eat a well-balanced breakfast and a home cooked, nutritional dinner that typically is made from scratch or near-scratch. But, for lunch and munchies, HG pulls through for me. I can have things that taste GREAT without adding a ton of calories or fat to my day. And, most of the recipes are filling because she tries to include high fiber (she follows a lot of the WW principles). The trick to using HG, as with any cookbook, is finding the recipes that work for you. She has a whole chapter of recipes that I can't or won't use because the recipes all use either canned pumpkin (I hate pumpkin), butternut squash (not in season), or the shiritaki noodles (not carried in my grocery stores and I'm not going to order them online). There are many other recipes that I just pass right over because they don't sound appealing to me, but I find that true with any cookbook. There are many gems mixed in there too though, and I find the book worth it just for those gems.

If you want an idea on if you'll like this cookbook or will find any recipes that work for you, check out her website, it's a very good indicator of whether or not you'll like what you will find in this cookbook.
