Product Description

Devin Alexander, author of the New York Times bestseller, The Biggest Loser Cookbook, lets you have your cake and lose weight, too, with sinfully tempting — yet amazingly healthy — recipes for America’s all-time favorite foods.

Chef and former L.A. caterer Devin Alexander has maintained a fifty-five-pound weight loss for over sixteen years by transforming the dishes she and millions of other Americans love best into guilt-free (yet still outrageously mouth-watering) indulgences--Rigatoni with Meat Sauce, BBQ Bacon Cheeseburgers, Eggplant Parmesan, Sinless Yet Sinful Sticky Buns, and even Dark Chocolate Layer Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting.

These simple-to-prepare recipes for the kind of delectable dishes people crave but feel they can’t eat when trying to be healthy and trim, actually can be the basis of a personal weight-loss plan. They can also be a way to add “off-limit” foods back into an already successful diet. Or they can simply be part of an exciting new way to eat healthfully — and with pleasure.

In The Most Decadent Diet Ever! Devin Alexander proves that even the most decadent dishes — Chipotle Chili with Blue Cheese Crumbles, "Fried" Jumbo Shrimp, Super-Stuffed Steak Soft Tacos, Fettu-Skinny Alfredo, Godiva Brownie Sundaes, and Chocolate Chip Pancakes — can lead to weight loss, good health, and carefree enjoyment.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! I'm impressed - Sooo much better than Hungrygirl 1-2-3   July 27, 2010

First off, I know in my title I've compared this book to Hungrygirl 1-2-3 book. I understand that Hungry girl is all about speed and reduced calories (at pretty much any cost - Artificial everything, prepackaged everything).

This cookbook is about REAL food that tastes GREAT and is low in fat and calories. It's an important distinction.

I try my best to focus on eating more natural foods, local foods, whole grains, etc. This book allows me the flexibility to do so without sacrificing health for "diet".

I like that the chef provides a story about the inspiration behind the recipes plus additional cooking notes for those that are less experienced in cooking. These comments have helped me alot. The intro to the book is very informative and I find the index very good for locating recipes when in a rush.

I didn't have a problem finding any of the ingredients. They pretty much were in my local Wegmans. I imagine most mega grocery stores will have the items. Target is a good second option (If you have a supertarget try there). If they are dry ingredients you can also find them on Amazon.

I've made so far: The chocolate chip pancakes. Amazing tasting, speedy and a great breakfast. Breakfast nachos! Better than expected and took all of 5 minutes. Sausage Biscuit, a more time intensive meal but I found the end result great. I actually used the leftovers to make things other than sausage biscuits such as a reasonably sized sausage sub for lunch as well. The biscuits were so good that I ate a couple on their own!

Dinners; Chinese pepper steak, was delicious. Smashed potatoes were very good. Grilled corn was yummy. Deserts, I've had the Not only in your dreams cake. Sooooo gooood! I'm planning on making the Carrot cake soon! I honestly can't say enough good things about this book. It's been great for me and so far my husband has loved everything. I have to sometimes make a few more servings so he can take them to work the next day! The recipes have been fairly easy to double up or even reduce.

I was so happy with this book that I've showed it to coworkers and recommended it. Plus I bought two more of Devin Alexander's cookbooks. Fast food fix and "I can't believe it's not fattening". As a side note: The remade Big Macs are spot on and delicious (at a reduced fat/calorie count) <- recipe is in Fast food Fix.

If you're looking for speed, then the "I can't believe it's not fattening" book is more for you. The chef still tries to gear one to low fat items while keeping things healthy but fast! There are some great ideas in that book too. The glazed pork chops were very good!

4 out of 5 stars Sinful Sticky Buns - on a Diet!   June 10, 2010

A diet book that shows yummy, gooey cinnamon rolls and says I can eat them has got to be a winner.

There is a chart in the front of the book to show us how many calories to eat for our age, gender and activity level.

This book is for someone who is already trying to diet: it will give you some new recipes.

Or this book is for someone who is not following a diet, but needs to get healthier. So the introduction of some wonderful recipes and portion sizes can help you know how to get more protein and veggies, how to control the starch or sugar carbs and the fat.

Another reason to get this book is if you have an overweight loved one and you are worried about them- just use some of the recipes for their favorite dishes and they will never know about the reduction of calories.

Or if you are one of those unlucky people who have never had a diet work and you need some new structure this plan may help.
There are lots of good recipes in this book and even menu plans for different calorie needs. It gives you a good idea about some staples you should have on hand in your pantry.

Recipes are for small portions- often for 2 or for 4, but sometimes just to make a single serving, and it gives you an idea of how long it will take to prepare. There are plenty of glossy, full-color photographs throughout this book.

I cannot tell you whether this diet will work for you or not, but I felt it was worth the try.

Some of my favorite recipes were:
Mostly Mom's Marinara Sauce
Greek Tuna Salad
California Cobb Salad
Open -Face Ham and Cheese Sandwich
Bacon and Egg Breakfast Quesadilla
Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry Breakfast Sundae
Buffalo Wing Plate
Sinless Yet Sinful Sticky Buns

I flipped through this book when I got it home. I only saw a few reciped that appealed to me. They all seem to time consuming and not easy to make. I NEVER grab this cookbook when looking for recipes. Really disappointed in this book

5 out of 5 stars Truth to the title!   May 27, 2010

Great book. Very good recipes. Our favorite, so far, is the Curry Chicken Wrap. I've never tried a mango and now have in this recipe. Very simple, very, very delicious. I've learned about new flavors and foods, and how they go together, because of this book. Devin knows her stuff. As she explains, she's been through weight issues and figured out how to resolve them with her own original recipes. I bought 3 of her cookbooks and will buy any new one she publishes. She IS that good as what she does!

5 out of 5 stars I L.O.V.E. this cookbook!   April 26, 2010

I am a foodie - I love to cook for my family of 5. I have one hard to impress hubby ( a very meat & potato kind of guy) a veggie leaning 5 yo, a picky teen and an 8yo that will eat anything. Everything I have made from this book has been fabulous! We started with the choc chip pancakes (A+++), moved on to the mini cheesecakes (BEYOND good!!!!), the skinny scampi (even the non-shrimp eater liked it) and the breakfast nachos & breakfast sundae were wonderful and I have been CRAVING the chocolate peanut butter oatmeal pudding ever since stealing a spoonful from my daughter. Every recipe provides portion size & calorie count along with all the other important nutritional data. I am on the hunt for another cookbook from the author! HIGHLY recommend!!
