4 out of 5 stars What to eat when you have Diabetes   July 9, 2010
C. Perry (Houston, TX)
I purchased this for a friend who was newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I also purchased one for myself even though I have been dealing with this disease for over 20 years.

I found this book somewhat helpful, especially for the newly diagnosed patient. It lets you know you don't have to give up the foods you love, just eat them in moderation.

I would recommend this book, especially for the newly diagnosed patient.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing carb guidance and recipes   June 16, 2010

I may keep this book for the nutrition info on fats, alcohol and snacks. It is truly a beginner's
guide for someone with diabetes. With a family member recently diagnosed with diabetes who has built a little
library of diabetes guides-I find myself disappointed in this. I was hoping for great food ideas and recipes
to expand our choices-and for someone who limits carbs to 30-40 per meal this is not much help. A good
guide to healthy eating but not much help to someone preparing meals for a diabetic devoted to a truly low
carb intake.

5 out of 5 stars Newly Diagnosed Diabetic?   June 13, 2010

This book takes the fear out of the "now what can I eat" anxiety. It is very simple and straight foward reading. I highly reccommend this book for the person who has been newly diagnosed with diabetes...it has helped out my family.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this book!   February 23, 2010

This book is a great resource for anyone who faces the challenges of managing type 2 diabetes - the major one being what to eat! Not only does it help a person decide what and how much to eat, the book also provides tasty recipes (I loved the Cranberry Pear Salad recipe and the Bruschetta Baked Potatoes) and tips on how to eat out without losing ground. The authors give practical advice on how to accomplish lifestyle goals including nutrition and exercise (I personally find it very helpful to use a pedometer to measure steps). Also included is a wealth of information about how to manage diabetes and demystify the myths about "diets" and diabetes. I give this book a big thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have!   February 16, 2010

As a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) the first question that my patients ask is what can I eat? They hear so much false information that they don't know where to begin. This book provides patients with tools and recipes for anyone with diabetes (or pre-diabetes) to follow. What I like most is that my patients can answer the "next steps" sections and at the end of the chapters and they will have created an action plan to help them control their diabetes. I will recommend this book to all of my patients!
